World Autism Day April 2022

Right 4 U 😊 aims to build and strengthen the capacity of young people and adults with autism to engage in activities within their local communities. Cedar’s Right 4 U Service 😊 has had a very successful year and continues to deliver a bespoke service to children, young people and adults with a diagnosis of autism.

We continue to have very strong partnerships with Belfast and Western Trusts and they commission the R4U services in these trust areas. The ASD Teams within the trust refer individuals to the service and are involved in the planning, delivery and reviewing of the service model.

Some very creative work has been taken forward and Cedar are delighted to report that we have supported 59 adults and 90 children and young people on the 1-1 element of the service from April 2022 – March 2023.

Within the Belfast Trust we have facilitated 4 programmes of Understanding My Autism with 42 adult attenders and there have been 4 personal development programmes for young people, focusing on understanding autism and positive friendships and there have been 23 young people in attendance.

In the Western Trust we have facilitated a range of personal development programmes, summer activities, social groups and peer groups and we have had 10-12 adults participating in these events across Derry, Omagh and Enniskillen.  For young people we have facilitated gaming groups and social skills groups and walking groups for parents.

Within the Belfast Trust area, Cedar facilitate the weekly advice service, the Belfast Adult Autism Advice Service (BAAAS). The service has facilitated 50 sessions throughout the year, with over 90 attenders visiting the BAAAS.

A big thank you to all those who engaged in our services across the year and we hope that you will continue to be engage in the service Right 4 U Service 😊 and what it has to offer.

We’ve had some positive feedback from the individuals and families accessing the service:

"Thank you for the past 4-weeks….. I have found the programme useful and informative and I would be interested in any more programmes you are running in the new year and would be happy to attend them."

Service user thanked staff for supporting her and sticking by her for the 18 months on R4U; stating “You have supported me in changing how I feels about myself and now feel better in myself”.

Messages from Service User relating to the support & encouragement provided around gym attendance and thanking Roisin for support in achieving this goal… “Thanks for the encouragement on Thursday as it helped me pluck up the courage for today.”
