Our Inclusion Works (Southern) service user Daniel McGeown wanted to develop his capacity to take part in a regular Walking Football activity that he could access closer to his home. As there were no suitable groups in the area, he was supported by Cedar staff in setting up a small group which would bring together other service users with physical or cognitive difficulties.

A group was set up with his Cedar Key Worker to test geographical locations and they eventually settled on Tandragee Recreation Centre, with sessions running over a 6 month period. As the venture was incredibly successful with all participants giving excellent feedback, a long-term option was sought out. Daniel worked alongside his Key Worker to approach suitable organisations who might be interested in taking over long-term facilitation of the Walking Football activity.
As a result, ABC council have agreed to facilitate Walking Football on a weekly basis commencing 24th February. Thanks to ABC and Alex Clifford for allowing service users to access a sport that is highly popular, on a more frequent basis with their peers.
