My name is Jessica and I have been volunteering as a Support Worker at Cedar for 1 year. My originally involvement with Cedar was to get the evidence I needed to complete a Duke of Edinburgh Award. I had such a positive experience during this time that I decided that I would like to become a volunteer and support the staff and residents in Karuna.

Karuna is a great place to volunteer, the residents and staff are all so friendly and helpful. Supporting the Activities Co-ordinator in Karuna has meant that I have I have been able to go on various outings from Christmas pantos to the Transport Museum and a visit to Stormont. I also helped the team out last June at Learning Disability Pride event.

I feel my experiences at Karuna have provided me with the opportunity to grow new skills. I have learned how to work as part of a team, I have developed my communication skills, I know the importance of respecting diversity and ensuring everyone has a voice. I have also undertaken training courses that help me carry out my volunteering role. I feel these skills will benefit me throughout my life and I look forward to continuing my volunteering work with Cedar.
