The Brain Injury Awareness Week 2023 Open Session in Bangor was a resounding success. Organised by ABI Choices, the event brought together 30 participants, including individuals with brain injuries, supportive friends and family members, representatives from Cedar's User Forum and Inclusion Works, as well as members of the public.

During the session, attendees had the opportunity to listen to personal stories from individuals affected by brain injuries and their families. These personal stories shed light on the immense challenges these individuals face daily, and the incredible determination shown in overcoming them. Mr. RH emphasised the importance of socialising and joining community groups to avoid the devastating consequences of isolation. He shared a personal quote, stating, "Being part of a group in your community can bring joy, new connections, and a sense of belonging."

Ms. DM stressed the significance of self-care and self-compassion, drawing from her own experience as a person with a brain injury. She emphasised, "Taking care of yourself, both physically and emotionally, is essential on the journey of recovery."

During the session, Mr. ME emphasised the significance of receiving the right support and maintaining a strong sense of self-determination in overcoming the challenges faced on the journey to recovery. He expressed gratitude for the vital role Cedar has played in providing the necessary assistance, stating, "Cedar has been instrumental in helping me navigate this journey, providing the support I need to reclaim my life." The session concluded with a series of enjoyable brain games, which everyone enthusiastically participated in and thoroughly enjoyed.

Overall, the event was a testament to the strength and resilience of individuals with brain injuries, their families, and the supportive community around them. It served as a reminder of the ongoing work needed to raise awareness and provide vital support for those living with brain injuries.
