Lady Sylvia Hermon MP Presents Awards to Cedar Participants

Wednesday 11 July 2018

Students who recently participated in the Annual Summer Scheme, jointly run by Cedar and South Eastern Regional College (SERC), attended an award ceremony receiving certificates presented by Lady Sylvia Hermon MP. The summer scheme, designed for people with disabilities, encouraged participants to take part in a variety of creative activities and provides a stepping stone for some of the students to progress to further education in the College in September.

This year’s scheme, which ran at the Bangor, Lisburn and Newtownards campuses, offered students a chance to undertake taster courses in woodwork, metalwork and cookery.  To celebrate the success of the Summer Scheme a ‘Celebration of Achievement’ event was held in Bangor Campus on Friday 22nd June 2018. All participants were presented with a certificate by Lady Hermon MP, Patron of the Summer Scheme, before enjoying an end of summer scheme lunch.

SERC Director of Strategic Planning, Quality and Support Heather McKee said “It was a privilege to host this very special event and I would like to congratulate all of the students. What the students have achieved is fantastic and we are all immensely proud. They have consistently shown themselves to be very disciplined, polite and hardworking students who have availed of all the learning support made available to them.”

Eileen Thomson, Deputy Chief Executive of Cedar added "Cedar is delighted to continue this partnership with SERC and I would like to congratulate all the students who took part in the summer scheme.  I know the students really enjoy the diverse programme of training on offer as well as the opportunity to develop new skills.  It wouldn’t be possible without SERC providing such a variety of high quality courses”.
