When Harry met Angie

Thursday 21 September 2017

Angela Newell is a Project Officer on the Workable (NI) programme supporting people with disabilities to secure and maintain their employment. Through the programme Supported Emplyment Solutions (SES) employees with disabilities and their employers are provided with individualised support focused on helping them to overcome employment related barriers.

Angela is currently supporting an employee who workes in the Department for Economy in Belfast. In recognition of the support provided by Cedar and SES, the employees managers nominated Angela to attend the garden party hosted by the Secetary of State state for Northern Ireland at Hillsborough Castle on the day of the visit by HRH Prince Henry of Wales.

Angela was introduced to the Prince during the garden party and talked to him about Workable (NI). She told him how Cedar provides a range of support services that can be tailored to each inidvidual employee with a disability their co-workers and the organisation where they work. His Royal Highness commended the service and went on to discuss how it ties in with his recent mental health campaign and the importance of supporting people to look after both their physical and mental health.

Workable (NI) is a supported employment programme funded by the Department for Communities. Cedar delivers Workable (NI) across Northern Ireland as part of the SES Partnership with Action Mental Health, Mencap, NOW, Orchardville, RNIB and Action on Hearling Loss.
