Cedar and Clanrye Students Master the Art of Interviews

Monday 14 August 2017

Students from Clanrye Training group at Slieve Gullion near Newry, with the support of Cedar’s SES team, recently completed an Interview Prep and Mock Interview Day.  Peter, Angie, Celine and Bill from the SES Team, joined Eve and the 25 young people in Clanrye Training, to support their development and learning regarding Skills and Knowledge of the World of Work.

Both the Prep and Interview Day assisted the young people to participate, stretch and challenge themselves in a safe and supported environment.  All participants learned to develop interview strategies and improve their communication skills in preparation for work.  Commenting on the day, student Alice, said: “I got good advice from Eve & Angie before the interview and the experience was great as I have never been to an Interview before”.

Every young person learned about the importance of self-presentation at interview including Body Language.

David said: “The Mock Interview process made me really think not only about what I should say but how I should say it.  I learned to be aware of my body language, these details are important at an interview”.

Reflecting on the day Matthew commented: “The interview feedback was useful.  I now know what I can do and what I need to work on”.

All the participants are following an OCN Employability course with Eve in Clanrye Training. The Mock Interviews supported the extended learning of the student’s qualification.  Eve commented: “The setup of the Mock Interview environment and scenario was hugely beneficial to the students. They were able to prepare themselves with the interview etiquette required to boost self-confidence and this learning will help to support their transition into the world of work”.

Summarising the day, Patrick said: “The whole process helped me boost my confidence.  Applying for college or a job doesn’t seem so scary now”.

In recognition of the student’s participation the Interview day concluded with a Presentation of certificates.
