Young People Take the Lead with Cedar!

Thursday 01 June 2017

Young People participating in our Regional Youth Matters service recently came together to train as young interviewers on our fun-filled residential. Youth Matters have been delivering 'Take the Lead' project since December and this initiative has seen participants take part in a number of workshops including 'Diversity and Equality,' 'Recruiting Fairly' and 'The Recruitment and Selection Processes.' We have also been working alongside the Red Cross and Volunteer Now to promote Active Citizenship and Volunteering.

The residential took place at the Hilton Templepatrick on Friday 19th May and Saturday 20th May. Our young people had a packed programme of activity including team building activities, swimming, movies, learning about the interview process and participated in role playing interview panel scenarios.

Over the next 6 weeks young people will have the opportunity to participate in Cedar Bank Support Worker interviews across Northern Ireland. Everyone had an amazing time with one participant from Belfast stating: 'It was the best experience ever, I have never stayed away from home before and I'm really excited about interviewing potential staff." The confidence building activities encouraged participation, communication and teamwork.

Our Youth Officers would like to thank Rachel McAdam from Hilton Hotels who organised our stay and Coca-Cola Hellenic ltd who have made the entire project possible thanks to their 'Thank You Fund.'
