Cedar’s Chief Executive Wins C03 Awards

The Cedar Foundation’s Chief Executive, Stephen Mathews has picked up the ‘Leading People’ award and the accolade of ‘Overall Inspiring Leader of the Year’ at the C03 Awards, a gala ceremony in the City Hotel in Derry which acknowledged those working in the Voluntary and Community Sector throughout Northern Ireland. The Leadership Awards are open to leaders of organisations such as community projects, health organisations, social enterprises, voluntary organisations, or any of the many other organisations that make up the breadth of the sector.

The CO3 ‘Overall Inspiring Leader of the Year’ award recognises Stephen’s innovative and inspirational leadership within the Voluntary and Community  Sector, as well as commending his outstanding work supporting services for people with disabilities.

On receipt of his awards Stephen said, “I am very grateful for these awards and I would like to thank everyone involved in the ceremony as well as the Judging Panel. These awards are as much recognition of The Cedar Foundation as they are of me. I have worked for Cedar for twenty years and I am so proud of the organisation and everyone in it.”

Speaking at the awards ceremony Junior Minister Martina Anderson said:“It is important that everyone in our society can benefit from investment and development, and the advantages they can bring and it is crucial that those who are most vulnerable within our society have representation and a strong voice. It is the leaders within the Voluntary and Community Sector who provide that voice, they work tirelessly for rights for those who may be disadvantaged, they secure the delivery of much needed services on the ground, and they ensure that the cause they champion is kept on Government agendas.”
