Maureen Gives Something Back
Tuesday 31 January 2012
Maureen Teggarty from Kilkeel has raised £480 for The Cedar Foundation. The money has now all been gathered in following a charity event which she hosted at her home at Christmas time. Maureen invited the local community to come along to a coffee fayre and carols by candlelight, asking guests to make a donation to Cedar as well as the Mourne Stimulus Day Centre.
Maureen avails of Cedar’s Floating Support Service. This assists adults living in their own home to carry out their housing responsibilities as independently as possible by tailoring a programme to suit their individual needs. Cedar offers support and advice about budget management, home and community safety, housing and benefits rights, adaptive equipment and assistive technology for the home as well as how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Julie Wilson, a Cedar Floating Support Worker visits Maureen in her home once a week.
Maureen explains why she decided to raise funds for Cedar, “I’ve had great help from Cedar since I came on their programme in July so this was my way of saying thanks and giving something back for the support I have received.”
Julie, Maureen’s Floating Support Worker added, “A huge thank you goes to Maureen for organising such a successful event which brought the whole community together. We are really appreciative of her efforts to help us at Cedar to support others.”
