Hurling match raises £700 for Cedar

Hurling match raises £700 for CedarSt. Peter’s GAA Club in Warrenpoint held their 6th annual Hurling Charity Match on Boxing Day morning and have raised nearly £700 for The Cedar Foundation.

 

The match took place at Milltown playing fields and it was a tremendous event with a large crowd in attendance. Past and present hurlers from near and far turned out in force and in fancy dress for what has become one of the most eagerly anticipated festive traditions in Warrenpoint. Each player raised their own sponsorship to take part on the day and spectators were asked to donate money at half time.

 

Hurling match raises £700 for CedarSpectators were entertained to a hurling game whose teams were made up of fancy dressed celebrities from the world of sport, entertainment and Disney.

 

The game was played in mild unseasonal weather and despite the unusual attire, the players managed to play a good game of hurling. Following the game, players and spectators enjoyed hot soup, courtesy of Bellini's Newry.

 

Club Chairman Fergal McCormack said, “Thank you to all who were in attendance especially the hurlers who help raise money for charity every year on top of their playing and coaching commitments.”
