Young People Experience MTV EMAs
Friday 09 December 2011
A group of young people from Cedar’s Youth Matters Service in Belfast were lucky enough to attend the MTV European Music Awards at the Odyssey Arena on Sunday 6th November. The group were supported by Youth Officer Gillian Presho who liaised with MTV to secure the tickets and Bank Support Workers Steve Derby and Jonny Baxter.
A month has passed but all the young people are still talking about the MTV EMAs! Thanks to Georgia, Albert and Jo from MTV Social Responsibility for providing 10 tickets which made it possible for 7 young people and 3 staff members to attend the Awards Ceremony.
Acts on the night included Coldplay, Bruno Mars, LMFAO and of course Lady Gaga with her first ever live performance of her new single ‘Marry the night.’ Sean, 15, thought Lady Gaga was the highlight of the evening and loved her ‘unique’ style which saw her dressed as a satellite perched on top of the moon! Other Highlights included David ‘The Hoff’ Hasslehoff, Hayden Panettiere, Katy Perry and Jessie J.
Glenn, 18, said, “This was the best activity we’ve ever done and I really can’t believe we were lucky enough to be there. Thank you so much Cedar for making it happen.”
Youth Officer for the Eastern Board, Gillian Presho commented, “This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, for one night only Northern Ireland was the centre of focus for over a billion viewers worldwide and to be part of that was amazing. We are all very thankful to MTV for providing us with the tickets. The young people (and the staff) had an amazing night!”
