A Special Award for Maureen

Maureen McDowell, a Cedar Trainee in Ballymena has been recognised for personal achievement with a William Keown Trust Award. She received the coveted Flogas Shield - one of three special trophies in the Adult Achievement Category during a special presentation ceremony recently staged in North Down at which the awards were presented by Trust President Kate Smith formerly of UTV and local entertainer Gene Fitzpatrick.
Maureen has been a trainee at Northern Area Training Services since January 2009. During her training programme at Cedar, Maureen has participated in a variety of activities. She has developed her list of qualifications and has completed Essential Skills Level 1 Literacy, Webwise and BSL Level 1 Sign Language. Maureen has also been involved in Cedar’s Northern area Social Networks programme.
Maureen currently volunteers 3 days per week in 3 different programmes:-
- Good Morning Ballymena – a phone support line to elderly clients
- Saint Vincent de Paul – Maureen volunteers in a charity shop on Fridays. She is responsible for window dressing, dealing with customers and sales
- Kintullagh House residential care home where she supports the Activities Therapist to provide fun activities to stimulate the residents.
