Ideas for Primary Schools
Here are a few fundraising ideas for Primary Schools
Dress Down Days
Instead of simply paying to wear their own clothes, why not theme the day to give it an added dimension? Pyjamas, Black and White, 1950’s, the ideas are endless! All in return for a donation.
If you have those who do not have to wear uniform (teachers)get them to swap and actually PAY to wear school uniform for the day instead!
Christmas Play or Concert
If you are already running a Christmas play or concert free, then just charge an admission fee for parents or relatives and maybe charge for refreshments, if they know it is for a good cause they won’t mind.
Art Fair
Encourage students to create an original piece of art in their lessons (poetry, painting, pottery, stories). Hold a fair or auction to sell these to friends and family as well as the local community.
Unwanted Sales
Traditionally known as jumble sales, bric-a-brac or bring and buy. A great way to have a clear out and maybe find that little something you have been looking for all this time!
Auctions
If doing an auction try to get a good auctioneer. This need not be a professional but, more importantly, someone who is not afraid to stand up and really enthuse people. Try and get prizes donated. It is okay to set a reserve for prizes. Have spotters around the room to take people’s details as soon as they have won a bid.
Sports Tournaments
Pitch classes or houses against each other during sports lessons or extra-curricular sports. The best house/class at the end of term/year wins a prize. Get each member of the team sponsored to take part.
Marathons
Not just the running variety. Try a dance-athon, a bounce-athon (on a trampoline) or a hula-hoop marathon where students pay to enter or are sponsored per minute by friends and family.
Readathon
As the name suggests this is sponsored reading of so much per book.
Evening Events
Get parents, friends of the family and the local community involved in a “grown-up” event. Ideas could include a ball, supper, wine and cheeseevening, a play or a review where the students perform.
Competitions
A way to get students sponsored for learning!
Hold a quiz (such as a maths quiz) and encourage students to get sponsored per correct answer.
Sponsored Silence
Perhaps every teacher’s dream? We hope so!
Christmas Seals
Our Christmas Seals have become a very enjoyable part of the Christmas preparations in many primary schools throughout the province. The colourful seals are used by the children to send their internal Christmas post and I have enclosed a small sample for you. There are 36 stamps per sheet and they cost 3 pence per stamp or £1 per sheet.
