Family Focus
Family Focus is a short break service for families with young disabled children aged 0-5 years living within the Western Trust Area (Northern Sector).
Early years are a critical period for disabled children. Child development may be affected by the support and services received by young people and their families. Early support for disabled children and their families is essential to prevent problems such as deteriorating health, family stress and breakdown.
The Service:
- Provides family support through regular short breaks on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
- Provides parent information sessions on relevant topics such as play, benefits and equipment.
- Offers a peer support network with other parents at this critical time.
- Promotes the inclusion of disabled children into local preschool activities in their local area by offering disability awareness training.
- Promotes a positive impact on the lives of disabled children allowing them the opportunity to experience new relationships and environments.
