Community ConneXion
OUR ROLE
Community ConneXion offers a diverse range of opportunities forboth disabled and non-disabled peole to become inolved in volunteering.
Community ConneXion is funded under the Community Volunteering Scheme (CVS), a grant programme funded by the Voluntary and Community Unit in the Department of Social Development. CVS encourages and supports volunteering, creates and enhances opportunities for volunteers that encourages learning and good practice and promotes a positive image of volunteering and community participation.
The Cedar Foundation, as a delivery partner for the CVS via the Community ConneXion programme, aims to recruit and match volunteers to opportunities as well as support disabled people who wish to set up and manage their own projects.
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
The Community ConneXion programme is directly targeted at groups of people who are under represented in the volunteer population in Northern Ireland. Specifically the project will provide and support volunteering opportunities for people with physical disabilities and brain injuries within the community and provide opportunities for non-disabled people from the local community acting as enablers/facilitators for individuals with disabilities.
WHY VOLUNTEER?
People volunteer because they enjoy it and because they get the opportunity to make a difference in the community.
WHO CAN VOLUNTEER?
Anyone can! Regardless of ability or disability anyone can volunteer, all you need is enthuasiasm. If paid work is not for you perhaps you may still want to undertake a few hours voluntary work.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
- If you are unemployed you stand a much better chance of getting a job as employers take volunteering into account as it shows initiative and provides you with valuable experience.
- If you are no longer working you can still pass on the skills and experience you gained while keeping in touch with your community.
- If you are at a loose end for whatever reason voluntary work can be a means of meeting new people while building up your confidence and self-esteem.
- Volunteers will receive a Certificate of Achievement, a formal celebration of your success and a reference if requested.
This programme has been funded by The Department for Social Development under the Community Volunteer Scheme.
