The Cedar Foundation launched its Youth Matters Service in the Southern Board Area at The Armagh City Hotel on Friday 26th June.The Youth Matters Service provides social activities and programmes for young people with disabilities up to 20 years old. Through the service Young people have more opportunities to become independent and confident to access services available to them and have increased opportunity to access local mainstream provision. Parents and carers also benefit from the service by having a short break when the young people are taking part in the Youth Matters Service.
At the launch Stephen Mathew, Cedar's Chief Executive, introduced two of Cedar's Young Service users. Gerard Colgan who presented an overview of Youth Matters Service, and Christopher Turkington who gave a presentation about the Youth Matters Personal Development Programme.
Sinead McShane, Youth Officer for Inclusion, Southern Education & Library Board gave a presentation about SELB's successful partnership with Cedar and said
" Working together for a common goal is the gift we can give to children and young people. SELB Youth Service Inclusion Unit warmly welcomes and looks forward to our partnership work with Cedar Foundation Youth Matters"
The Service was then formally launched by Paddy Sloan, National Head, BBC Children in Need who commented;
"BBC Children in Needis delighted to be associated withthe Cedar Foundation and to see Youth Mattersputting young people at the centre of their work while engaging with the public sectortopromote the needs of disabled young people. I hope Youth Matters continues to have fun, make useful partnerships, challenge problems and overcome barriers."
