The BBC Community Bus Visits Cedar

Date Posted: Monday 25 February 2008

The BBC Community BusOn 13th and 14th of February the BBC’s Community Bus team was at The Cedar Foundation's Balmoral Training & Resource Centre on the Upper Lisburn Road, Belfast.

The Cedar Foundation's training service provides a unique package of training, employment and support programmes that promote the social and economic inclusion of people with disabilities.

Three trainees from the Foundation attended a video production workshop. On day one, Paddy, Brendan and Gerard were shown basic camera skills such as camera operation, how to frame a shot and how to capture different shot sizes. The trainees familiarised themselves with the equipment and gained practical experience of using the cameras by filming each other.

The BBC Community BusLater that afternoon and with a little help from the Bus team, the trainees shot some footage of a cookery class that took place in Cedar's training kitchen.

On the second day the trainees prepared to shoot an interview using three cameras. Niall Irwin, a Cedar Foundation staff member interviewed BBC NI Sport reporter Denise Watson. Niall quizzed Denise on her work as a reporter for BBC Northern Ireland while Paddy, Gerard and Brendan captured it all on camera. After chatting to Denise and a quick lunch, everyone was back on the Bus for a Windows Movie Maker editing tutorial.
