Runaway Fashion

Date Posted: Friday 05 January 2007

The User ForumThe Cedar Foundation’s User Forum held its second Fashion Show in the Wellington Park Hotel in the latter half of last year. The night, which was compered by Presenter Sarah Travers, was a runaway success with disabled people, staff from the Foundation and their families taking part in the show.

Clothes were provided by Benetton, Hobbs, Murphy & Nye and Ludlows Formal Hire, all based on the Lisburn Road. What was unique about the show was that it was organised by and starred disabled people who use the services of The Cedar Foundation. And that it was co-ordinated by The User Forum, a group of disabled people who help to influence the decisions made by The Cedar Foundation and whose aim is to make a positive difference to the lives of disabled people in Northern Ireland.

The show raised a fantastic £2520.00 which was presented to the charity in December by the User Forum and Sarah Travers at the Foundation Training Centre at Balmoral, Belfast. The Cedar Foundation works with nearly 1400 people of all ages, ranging from new born babies to those in their later years and provides a lifeline of help to the disabled person, their families and friends. The funds raised at the show will be used to develop and deliver services and projects for disabled people of all ages throughout Northern Ireland.

Raymond Kirk, Chair of the User Forum added:

“The night was a sell out and a fantastic success. Many more disabled people took part in the show this year, including men for the first time, and we have raised twice as much as last year”

Anne McAleer, Facilitator with The User Forum also thoroughly enjoyed the evening, being both one of the organisers and modelling on the night, she commented:

“A lot of planning went into the Fashion Show and it was great that is was so good and so professionally run on the night. It makes it all worthwhile when you can present a cheque for over £2,500 to The Foundation. Giving them something back for all the help and support they have given everyone of us in the User Forum.”
