The Cedar Foundation's annual Adrenaline Rush Event has a brand new location this year. The Watersports Centre at Craigavon Lakes will provide the backdrop for the 2008 event which will raise money for disabled people in Northern Ireland.
The charity event was officially launched by the Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Robert Smith and Maria McArdle from The Cedar Foundation's Brain Injury Services which operates throughout the whole of the Southern Health & Social Care Trust Area, including Craigavon.
The Mayor has bravely signed up to be one of the first to zip slide, from a height of 80ft from one side of the lakes to the other on Saturday 17th May 2008.
Christine Tweedie, Fundraising Officer with Cedar explains more:
"Basically you get harnessed up, and then brought up via crane to see Craigavon from a completely new perspective, 80ft in the air. Then you just step off and enjoy the thrill of zipping at speeds of up to 40 miles an hour across the lakes. It's the closest thing to flying you can get. In previous years we have used Belfast as a venue, zipping across the Lagan but we felt that we needed a change this year. As well as the spectacular setting of the lakes, the zip slide will be longer and faster than before. We need as many people as possible to take part to help raise funds for disabled people in Northern Ireland".
She continues:
"It's great to have the support from the Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Robert Smith. His support for the event has been great, even going so far as to zip slide himself. I hope this encourages many more people to take part".
Councillor Smith adds:
"I have attended many different and varied events during my year as Mayor of Craigavon Borough Council, but as my year in office comes to an end in June I am looking forward to taking part in The Cedar Foundation's fundraising event - I'll certainly be ending my term as Mayor on a crest of a wave - figuratively of course".
