Children in Need - CapriceThe Cedar Foundation?s Peer Education Programme has received a vital injection of cash from BBC?s Children in Need to employ a Youth Officer for the next three years.

The Peer Education Programme is a personal development programme for young people with physical disability which encourages them to talk about issues that affect them as disabled people. It deals with subjects such as personal development, self-esteem, confidence and capacity building and relationships. All these issues are relevant to teenagers in any circumstances and are particularly important to young disabled people who can feel isolated and left out, resulting in low self-esteem.

Claire Dallas, Peer Education Youth Officer explains more:

"The Peer Education Programme is an invaluable opportunity for young people to engage in group work with peers and to explore issues that are relevant to them in a safe environment. Young people are the foundation of youth work; they provide the direction and flow of how the overall Youth Matters Service works. Personal development is a journey that we all need to continually embrace as it is one that enhances our ability to find meaning in our lives".

There are currently 8 young people on the Peer Education Programme, with space for four more. Just some of the comments from the group on the reasons why they come to the Peer Education Programme are:

"I like coming to the Peer Ed Group because I've met new people and have made friends and its lots of fun". (Corrina Jenkins, Aged 19)
