The Cedar Foundation's Project Resource programme, which trains people to become Disability Resource Workers for the Further Education Sector, is going from strength to strength. Funded by Proteus, this Belfast based project has just begun to recruit for its 4th set of training and already 100% of the trainees who took part in the first programme have secured jobs. Two of the 8 from the second group are also already in employment even though they have barely finished classes, jobs they would not have gotten if it hadn?t have been for the Project Resource Programme. The groups have also increased in size as the programme continues, rising from 7 taking part in the first group to 11 in the third. Participants learn core skills such as Disability Awareness Training, Child & Vulnerable Adult Protection Training, Basic I.C.T. and First Aid. Optional Units include Working with Sensory Impairments, Note Taking, Providing Personal Care and ECDL. Everyone who has completed the course so far has received their NIOCN level 3 Certificates, with most also getting Appointed Persons First Aid and ECDL qualifications.
Denise Clements, Project Resource Officer comments:
"We were delighted when we heard that we had received funding through Proteus for the 4th run of the Project Resource Programme. The programme has been very successful, we are extremely pleased that all of the people who took part in the 1st set of training are now employed as Disability Resource Workers and we are very confident that the next sets of trainees will follow suit".
The project is funded by Proteus under PEACE II funds and accredited by NIOCN. The Cedar Foundation works in partnership with people in Northern Ireland who have physical disabilities. The Foundation develops and delivers services that promote choice, equality, independence and opportunity. To find out more log on to www.cedar-foundation.org or Tel: 028 9066 6188.
