The Cedar Foundation gets ready to Challenge Italy

Date Posted: Wednesday 21 April 2004

Challenge Italy ParticipantsTwelve young people with brain injuries are being offered an exciting opportunity to develop skills and experience with training not only in Ireland but in Italy as well. The training, for participants from Northern and Southern Ireland, will help them get jobs when they get back to Ireland. The project is in three phases: 10 weeks of training in personal development, work skills development, mutual understanding and language skills. The exciting overseas phase will consist of 4 weeks training in Italy based in Ferrara and will involve college-based direct training, work placement, mutual understanding workshops and personal development work along with social and leisure activities and the final phase of 6 weeks training focusing primarily on individual action plans, job search activities, completion of any outstanding training requirements and evaluation. Key objectives of the programme include promoting and improving mutual understanding among those taking part, maximizing opportunities for participants to sustain work placement programmes and/or gain employment when the programme has finished and the development of interpersonal and work preparation skills to name a few. It also helps the participants develop self-confidence in their own abilities and broaden their life experience through the opportunity to live and work in a different culture. CHALLENGE ITALY has been developed by the Cedar Foundation and the National Training and Development Institute and is a Wider Horizons Programme funded by the International Fund For Ireland. The Cedar Foundation works in partnership with people in Northern Ireland who have physical disability.
