The Cedar Foundation assists fellow charity

Date Posted: Tuesday 23 December 2003

BBQThe phrase "giving is better then receiving" is well known but doesn''t often apply to a Charity. However, The Cedar Foundation, a voluntary organisation that works in partnership with people with physical disabilities, changed all that when they held an event to raise funds for another charity!

The Cedar Foundation organised a barbeque to raise funds for Sargent Cancer Care for Children. A total of £550 was raised and the barbeque and fun day could well become an annual event. The cheque was officially handed over just before Christmas to Colleen Shaw of Sargent Cancer Care at The Cedar Foundation''s Head Office.

Leo Swift, Marketing and Appeals Manager for The Cedar Foundation explains: " As a charity ourselves, we depend on the help and support of other companies for funding, so we thought it would be a good idea if The Cedar Foundation raised some money for another charity".

The idea originated from the Societal Impact Team which was set up to look at how The Cedar Foundation''s activities impacted on society around it. The staff of The Cedar Foundation were given the opportunity to choose the nominated charity. Five charities were shortlisted, a vote was taken and Sargent Cancer Care came out on top.

Many businesses sponsored the barbeque and fun day - the Co-op, Tesco, O''Kane Poultry, Moy Park, Stevensons & Co, H&J Cassidy, Dairy Produce Packers, McKees Butchers and Pie Manufacturers, Magills Butchers, Townhill Meats, Meat Masters, Royal Irish Rangers, Kellys Fruit & Veg, Coca Cola, Costcutters and Calor Gas, even the face painters and jugglers were sponsored!

Future initiatives of the Societal Impact Team include environmental measures, re-cycling and energy efficiency.
