The Cedar Foundation''s first User Forum Conference was hailed an outstanding success by participants and organisers alike.
Held recently in the Glenavna Hotel, Newtownabbey, the conference was the opportunity for all those who are involved with and assisted by The Cedar Foundation to learn more about the Foundation, have their say and volunteer to be on the User Forum. The Forum worked both ways, with a presentation by Stephen Mathews, the Chief Executive of The Cedar Foundation highlighting the work and achievements of the Foundation over the last year. Three users also gave invaluable feedback on what the user needs are, be it Children''s and Young People Services, training and development, brain injury needs or assisted/independent living. It really was hearing what was required by the people who require it. In fact, many of the attendees volunteered to be on the Forum at the end of the Conference.
Stephen Mathews, Chief Executive added:
"It was tremendous to see so many people here today at our first conference, both users and staff alike. It really is the best way to make sure that the services provided by The Cedar Foundation are the right ones for the people who use those services. All feedback that we have received will be acted upon and I look forward to seeing the positive results at the next User Forum Conference".
The User Forum was set up because the Cedar Foundation, a locally based voluntary organisation that promotes choice for people with physical disabilities, realised that as part of it''s commitment to involving users at every level there was a need to develop a user forum for the organisation. As a result, a group of 12 users volunteered to develop a forum who would define the support and training needs required by its members. The User Forum enables people with physical disabilities to develop and apply the skills needed for full and active participation in the day to day work of The Cedar Foundation.
