The ACET Job Broking Service is a partnership of three specialist disability organisations, The Cedar Foundation, The Orchardville Society and RNID, committed to employment opportunities for adults with disabilities. The Job Broking Service itself is an employment programme funded by the Department of Employment and Learning as part of the New Deal for Disabled People. People who are claiming any of the following benefits and are unemployed, may be eligible for this programme:
Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disablement Allowance, Income Support, Disability Living Allowance, Housing Benefit, War pension, Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit, Credits Only cases on the grounds of incapacity.
If you are fully committed to finding a paid job, then we may be able to help you to develop the skills and experience necessary to enter the world of employment and to enjoy the personal and financial benefits from it.
Below are examples of what you could achieve through using this service:
Judith joined the Job Broking Service in May 2002, wanting to slowly integrate herself back into the workplace, having been medically retired in 1991, due to contracting ME. Having completed a work placement with the National Trust for a year, Judith decided that she was ready to progress into permanent paid employment and joined the Job Broking Service to help her to achieve this. Judith started with a local hospital as a clerical officer in November 2002 working 15 hours per week. Having completed over 6 months successfully, Judith feels more confident that she could manage more hours and, along with the Job Broking Service, is now ready to increase her hours.
Joanne joined the Job Broking Service in March 2002 and after a period in a work placement in a local Café in Belfast, felt that she would benefit from the innovative Training and Employment programme that ACET ran in the summer of 2002 in conjunction with Botanic Inns Limited. This programme involved training necessary for a career in the hospitality industry in Northern Ireland. As part of the programme Joanne secured a placement in a bar in the University area, which resulted in a full time paid waitressing position, following a successful job interview. Joanne continues to work in the same outlet and is steadily increasing her hours and her skills.
If you feel that you would benefit from this programme please contact: Sara Corrigan, The Orchardville Society, Lagan Village Tower, 144-152 Ravenhill Road, Belfast BT6 8ED. Tel: 02890 732326.
