Date Posted: Tuesday 15 June 2004

Celebrating Excellence Event, held at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) in Belfast. The Employers Forum for Disability recently invited The Cedar Foundation to attend their Celebrating Excellence Event, held at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) in Belfast.

DARD, who had just won the Best Participation Award and Employer of the Year Award, kindly hosted the event. Winners of the Employers Forum Awards spoke at the event, including The Hilton Group, DARD and the South & East Belfast Health and Social Services Trust.

The Cedar Foundation was on hand to offer advice to potential employers of people who have physical disabilities and were delighted by the response of the attendees.

Nicola Moses, Employment Development Officer, The Cedar Foundation adds:

"It's great to see so many employers making a concerted effort to encourage people with disabilities through their recruitment and retention policies, and setting a good example for others to follow. It was great to see that 3 of the organisations that won awards did so based on joint initiatives with The Cedar Foundation?s Training Services, both in Belfast and Ballymena. We would like to continue this success with other organisations wishing to develop the inclusion of people with disabilities within their workforce through The Cedar Foundation?s Job Support and Employment Development Programmes."

The Employers' Forum on Disability (NI) is a network of private, public and voluntary sector employers in Northern Ireland promoting access to goods, services, training and employment for people with disabilities. These employers have signed up to the Forum?s Agenda for Positive Action and the Agenda for Customers, two ten-point action plans of good practice.

The Cedar Foundation works in partnership with people in Northern Ireland who have physical disability. To find out more contact www.cedar-foundation.org or e.mail: info@cedar-foundation.org. To find out more about The Employers Forum contact www.efdni.org or e-mail: info@efdni.org.
