Kevin Kelly on placement with Tesco
Through a collaboration with Whizz Kidz (UK charity supporting young people with disabilities) we set up a placement with Tesco to provide Kevin, a young man with Aspergers, a fantastic opportunity at gaining valuable retail experience with the third largest retailer in the world.
Kevin arrived every Friday for 12 weeks dressed in full uniform and enthusiastic to work. Kevin was given the opportunity to work in several different areas within the store. He gained insight into the way that products arrive in the delivery trucks, move to storage and arrive finally onto the shelves. He helped to maintain stock levels by identifying where shelf stock was low, locating stock in storage and filling shelves whilst rotating stock. Kevin very much enjoyed working with freshly baked goods as he particularly enjoyed the smell as the bread came out of the ovens. This placement was a very rewarding experience for Kevin and will help to guide him towards his vocational goals.
Andrew Kerr, the Tesco Store Manager said, “It’s been great having Kevin here, he’s really helped support the store and his own development. The addition of Kevin into the store has shown our profile as a business, that we want to support people like Kevin, in his development, so that he can get on and have success in the future, together with Tescos.”
